Hiking stay 2023 - Club AS Bougival

We had the pleasure of welcoming the AS Bougival Hiking Club, where we met Michèle, Dany, Marie-Annick, Marie, Laurence, Soizick, Jean-Pierre, Patrick and Guy.

These nature and hiking enthusiasts shared with us their enthusiasm and their joy in discovering the wonders of the region. Here is an overview of the hikes we had the chance to do together during this unforgettable stay !

On Tuesday, to start our week of hiking, we opted for a pleasant one and a half hour walk around the medieval city of Carcassonne. We took a path that offered a breathtaking view of the expanses of vineyards and the magnificent count's castle. This hike was ideal to start our stay and allowed us to discover the charms of the city of Carcassonne, a must for any visitor to the region.
At the end of the day, we gathered around a delicious meal prepared by Régis, owner of the La Cour Carrée guest house. We started with a duck, apple and apricot tart as a starter, then we enjoyed a fillet of beef with truffle mashed potatoes as a main course. Finally, to end on a high note, raspberry tart !

On Wednesday, we ventured on the Alaric and Benitiers trail. This longer hike took about 4 hours, covering a distance of 15.43 kilometers with an elevation gain of 543 meters. The Alaric is a magnificent mountain located in the Aude department, in the heart of the Corbières. The landscape offered incredible panoramas of the surroundings, we were fascinated by the giant clams, these huge rocks formed by limestone eruptions.

After this busy day, we took the time to relax and treat ourselves at the table d'hôte with as a starter, prawns marinated in lemon and garlic, then a delicious beef bourguignon as a main course and finally chocolate mousse for dessert.

On Thursday, for our 3rd hike we walked around Lastours, a picturesque village located near Carcassonne. Over a distance of 18.38 kilometers and with an elevation gain of 740 meters, this hike took about 5 hours and 20 minutes. It is an impressive medieval site, which consists of four castles with a panoramic view of the Black Mountain.
After our efforts, we were warmly rewarded! Once again, Régis delighted us with his culinary preparations. We started by tasting a tasty mushroom soup as a starter, then we enjoyed a blanquette de Saint-Jacques as a main course and to top it off, a tiramisu for dessert !

On Friday, we decided to go to Lac du Lampy to explore the magnificent channels that surround it. Located in the heart of a vast forest, this lake is part of the artificial network that feeds the Canal du Midi, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our 4 hour and 37 minute hike allowed us to cover a distance of 17.77 kilometers, with an elevation gain of 135 meters. The beauty of the lake and the soothing murmur of the water flowing along the rills created an idyllic atmosphere to relax and rejuvenate surrounded by nature.
Once again, we were delighted during our evening meal! As a starter, Régis served us prawns breaded with pepper cream, then we tasted a delicious lamb shank with Lauragais beans for the main course and a chocolate fondant to finish on a touch of gluttony !

On Saturday, we ventured to the Grotte du Maquis and the Roc de l'Aigle. Climbing the path that leads to the top of the Roc de l'Aigle, we were rewarded with a magnificent viewpoint, located at an altitude of 685 meters, offering breathtaking views of the mountains. But also by exploring the caves of the Maquis, we were immersed in a limestone massif steeped in history, on the maquis and the Resistance. This 2 hour and 49 minute hike allowed us to cover 9.31 kilometers with an elevation gain of 399 meters.
For the last evening at the host table, we had a spinach soup garnished with Roquefort as a starter. Then, for the main course, we savored a delicious cod accompanied by farfalle, and a succulent apple pie for dessert. A delicious way to end our gastronomic experience at the La Cour Carrée host table !

Finally, on Sunday, for the last day, we did the Quillan trail in the Pyrenees. By traveling for nearly 3 hours, 13 kilometers and 378 elevation gain! Walking around Quillan was an opportunity to admire magnificent landscapes while discovering the emblematic sites of the valley.

This week has been intense on the sporting level, marked by wonderful encounters, rich in scenery, history and taste pleasure !
